Preparations for the Food Made Good Awards on 22 March are gathering pace (we’ll reveal details about this year’s guest chef next week). While you might think you’ve done all the hard work by completing your Food Made Good Rating, there are more chances to win and the clock starts ticking on Sunday!
People’s Favourite Award
Following the success of last year’s first staging of the People’s Favourite Award, we are delighted to announce that we are again asking the Great British dining public to choose their favourite restaurant, one that’s really going the extra mile to do everything right – including of course serving great sustainable food.
Last year’s search for the People’s Favourite met with a phenomenal response from diners. We received 800 brilliant nominations from all over the UK and eventually whittled them down to a shortlist of five. More than 10,000 votes later and StarBistro in Gloucestershire was named the People’s Favourite Restaurant.
Abby Guilding, Managing Director of the Wiggly Worm charity which runs StarBistro reflects on the win, saying: “Winning the People’s Favourite Award in 2015 has been a truly amazing experience for us at the Wiggly Worm charity. It’s helped us to engage with more customers, sparked lots of local interest, and helped prove that we really are ‘no ordinary bistro!’ It’s fantastic to be recognised as helping make a difference, and that people enjoy not only having a delicious meal at StarBistro, but also helping to change lives.”
Now it’s time to start the quest to find the 2016 award winner. So look out for the launch in this weekend’s Independent on Sunday, who we’re delighted to say are again working as our media partner for the awards. Your customers only have two weeks to put you up for the award as nominations must close on 7 February. We’ll be all over social media encouraging and inspiring people to nominate their favourite, using the hashtag #peoplesfave. Why not motivate your customers to nominate you – put up a blog on your website and include it in your newsletter
We will start accepting entries for the other open award categories from Monday 25 January.
Food Made Good Awards 2016 sees the introduction of the Sustainable Supplier of the Year award. This award will celebrate a vital behind-the-scenes and often underappreciated but critical facet of the foodservice sector. This award is open for nominations and the shortlist will be judged alongside the other two open categories, Best Food Waste Strategy and Sustainable Innovation Award, by a panel of expert judges.
Best Food Waste Strategy
This award celebrates a restaurant or group that has developed an innovative and progressive strategy to reducing and dealing with its food waste.
Sustainable Innovation Award
This award recognises the SRA Member (either foodservice or supplier) that has designed and implemented a truly innovative strategy to improve its sustainability.
The awards pages on the Food Made Good website will go live this weekend. So do please visit them as soon as possible – we can’t wait to receive your entries. You have until 21 February.
